On 17 November 2025, at the meeting of the General Affairs Council of the European Union in Brussels, Latvia will be represented by the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Artjoms Uršuļskis.
The Council will exchange views on the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework, focusing on national and regional partnership plans. Participants will discuss the agenda of the European Council meeting on 18-19 December, which is to address issues such as Russia’s war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and the EU’s next long-term budget.
The European Commission will inform those present about the state of play of the relations between the EU and the United Kingdom, as well as presenting a Work Programme, “Europe’s Independence Moment” unveiled on 21 October.
In the context of the EU’s annual rule of law dialogue, country-specific discussions will be held concerning four Member States: Bulgaria, Czechia, Ireland and Germany.
The General Affairs Council examines matters concerning more than one EU policy, such as negotiations on EU enlargement, preparations for the European Council, the EU’s Multi-annual Financial Framework, as well as the rule of law, institutional and administrative matters.
