On 13–14 June 2025, in Prague, Czechia, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Artjoms Uršuļskis, participated in the international GLOBSEC Forum. This year, the forum’s discussions focused primarily on enhancing Europe’s role in addressing security threats.

Artjoms Uršuļskis spoke on the conference panels titled “Ukraine’s Security Future: Between Guarantees, Alliances, and Self-Reliance ” and “Between the Lines of Defence: Civil-Military Interaction and Regional Readiness on NATO’s Eastern Flank.”

The Parliamentary Secretary emphasised that Russia continues to show no willingness to cease its aggression against Ukraine. Therefore, it is particularly crucial to maintain the current strategy—both politically and militarily strengthening Ukraine so that it can defend itself and enter any peace negotiations from a position of strength, while also increasing sanctions pressure on Russia.

Artjoms Uršuļskis underscored Latvia’s serious commitment to investing in its national defence capabilities and in reinforcing the Eastern borders of both the European Union and NATO. He noted that the security threat posed by Russia is long-term in nature, and thus the Alliance must continue to strengthen deterrence and defence by increasing financial contributions. He also stressed the importance of public support and understanding for the necessity of increased investments in defence.

The GLOBSEC Forum—organised by the international security think tank GLOBSEC—was held for the 20th time this year, bringing together policymakers, business leaders, and experts to discuss transatlantic relations. The discussions centred on future cooperation and practical solutions to address shared geopolitical challenges.
