On 27 May 2025, in Brussels, Belgium, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Artjoms Uršuļskis, will participate in the meeting of the General Affairs Council of the European Union.
The agenda of the meeting includes preparations for the European Council of 26-27 June, which will address the topics of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, developments in the Middle East, security and defence, the EU’s cooperation with third countries and partners, competitiveness and migration.
In the framework of the rule of law dialogue, a discussion will be held on the rule of law situation in four Member States: Belgium, Finland, Slovakia, and Sweden. Current situation in Hungary concerning EU values will also be addressed.
The officials of Member States will also have an informal exchange of views on the resilience of EU democracy.
The General Affairs Council deals with matters affecting more than one EU policy, such as negotiations on EU enlargement, preparations for meetings of the European Council, the EU’s long-term budget, as well as the rule of law, institutional and administrative matters.
