On 24 June 2025, Artjoms Uršuļskis, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will attend the meeting of the General Affairs Council of the European Union in Luxembourg.
The General Affairs Council is to prepare the agenda of the European Council meeting of 26–27 June, which includes topics such as Russia’s war against Ukraine, the Middle East, security and defence, EU cooperation with third countries and partners, as well as competitiveness and migration.
In the framework of the EU Rule of Law Dialogue, the officials of Member States will examine the rule of law situation in Finland. A presentation on the priorities of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU is also expected.
The meeting will finalise work on the 2025 European Semester process, approving the recommendations made to Member States, including Latvia, on economic, social, employment, structural and budgetary policies.
The General Affairs Council examines matters concerning more than one EU policy, such as negotiations on EU enlargement, preparations for the European Council, the EU’s Multi-annual Financial Framework, as well as the rule of law, institutional and administrative matters.
