On 11–12 May 2026, in Paris, France, the Under-Secretary of State for Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ivita Burmistre, participated in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) conference on the future of development cooperation. Discussions at the conference focused on development cooperation priorities, the more efficient use of resources, and the need to adapt cooperation approaches to the changing geopolitical landscape.

Addressing the audience ahead of a panel discussion on aligning international development cooperation priorities, Ivita Burmistre emphasised that development cooperation today must be flexible, targeted, and grounded in long-term partnerships. She noted that, given limited resources and a changing security landscape, it is particularly important to use available resources effectively and strategically, while maintaining a clear focus on development cooperation objectives.

During the conference, Ivita Burmistre and representatives of the Central Finance and Contracting Agency (CFLA), Dana Heiberga and Anita Krūmiņa, met with Carsten Staur, Chair of the OECD Development Assistance Committee, and Pilar Garrido Gonzalo, OECD Director for Development Co-operation.

The discussions focused on current development cooperation issues and Latvia’s support for Ukraine. Ivita Burmistre and CFLA Director Anita Krūmiņa provided an update on Latvia’s contribution to Ukraine’s reconstruction, including projects in the fields of healthcare and education, as well as support for people affected by the war.
