On 20 May 2025, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Dana Goldfinča, submitted credentials to the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari.

In meetings with officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other public authorities of Pakistan, opportunities for cooperation were discussed, including in economy, education, information technology, and other areas. The Ambassador’s accreditation makes it possible to develop bilateral relations between Latvia and Pakistan and opens up broader opportunities for dialogue on international security and regional cooperation issues, including in the framework of the EUPakistan cooperation.

In the context of Latvia standing as a candidate for an elected member’s seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the period from 2026 to 2027, during the bilateral talks, the Ambassador presented Latvia’s priorities and goals for the UNSC. If Latvia is elected, Latvia and Pakistan will work together on the UNSC during 2026.

In 2004, the European Union and Pakistan signed a cooperation agreement, and active cooperation is ongoing in areas of mutual interest such as trade, sustainable development, human rights, democracy, good governance and the rule of law, migration, and security. Pakistan is also included in the EU’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+).

Dana Goldfinča, the second non-resident Latvian Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, resides in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 29 April 1996.
