On 12 August 2025, in an official ceremony at Riga Castle, the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, presented credentials to the incoming Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Poland, Raimonds Jansons.

Raimonds Jansons began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Law Department, in 1993. Has worked as Director of the Legal Department, Director of the International Organisations and Human Rights Department, and Press Secretary, Head of the Communications Directorate. 

He has held posts at the Embassy of Latvia in Canada and the Permanent Mission of Latvia to the United Nations in Geneva, and served as Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, the United Nations in Geneva, the World Trade Organisation, and the Republic of Estonia.

Raimonds Jansons has been appointed non-resident Ambassador to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and from 2010 till present, non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa.

Since 2023 – the Head of State Protocol.  

In the course of his career, the Ambassador has received the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana, First Class; he has been made Grand Officer of the Order of Leopold of the Kingdom of Belgium, Commander of the Order of Civil and Military Merit of Adolph of Nassau of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Officer of the National Order of Merit of the Republic of Malta, Grand Commander of the Hellenic Order of the Phoenix, and Commander of the Order of the White Eagle of Poland.

The Ambassador holds a master’s degree in law from the University of Latvia.  

In his current posting, Raimonds Jansons succeeds Juris Poikāns, who has been the Ambassador of Latvia to Poland since 2021.
