Today, 7 July 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Russia’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim and presented a note of protest, categorically condemning the blatantly false statements about Latvia made publicly on 4 July 2026 by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Mikhail Galuzin. Despite Latvia’s consistent and clearly stated official position that Latvia has not opened its airspace for carrying out any attacks, as well as the joint statement by the foreign ministers of the Baltic states on 10 April of this year, the Russian side continues to spread lies and escalate the situation. Latvia rejects Russia’s claims as completely unfounded and demands that the Russian side immediately retract this false information.
Latvia also rejected other false statements about Latvia recently made by officials of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasising that Latvia ensures respect for the rule of law for every one of its citizens and that claims to the contrary are not supported by the facts.
A categorical protest was also lodged with the Russian Chargé d’Affaires ad interim regarding the massive missile and drone airstrike on Kyiv on the night of 5–6 July 2026, which claimed the lives of at least 26 civilians and injured more than 60 civilians, including children.
