Grant competition for development cooperation projects

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closing the 2025 grant project competition “Support to financing of pre-assessment visits for development cooperation projects in recipient countries designated by the Republic of Latvia” (hereinafter – competition). The aim of the competition is to identify cooperation needs in the recipient country with a view to establishing contacts with partners in the partner country, resulting in the preparation of a development cooperation project proposal.

Eight pre-assessment visit applications (hereinafter – applications) were received within the framework of the competition, of which five applications were approved:

  • Latvian Association of Crayfish and Fish Farmers pre-assessment visit to Zimbabwe to share Latvia’s experience in the sale of aquaculture and horticultural products through short supply chains;
  • Bulduri Technical School pre-assessment visit to Egypt to share Latvia’s experience in climate-controlled agriculture, agricultural digitisation, as well as vocational and higher education;
  • Freedom and Solidarity Foundation pre-assessment visit to Ukraine, where Latvia plans to share its experience in using digital technologies to identify and document ecological damage caused by war in the Dnipro region;
  • Latvian Corporate Social Responsibility Platform association pre-assessment visit to Uganda to provide practical training and knowledge transfer in the field of climate change accounting, monitoring and reporting, including the use of digitisation solutions;
  • Association “Ar Pasaules Pieredzi Latvijā” pre-assessment visit to Uzbekistan to work with local partners to develop solutions for promoting remigration, diaspora engagement, and human capital return, based on Latvia’s experience in this area.

After a positive decision has been sent, communication with each project applicant begins regarding the preparation and signing of the grant agreement. The applicant may withdraw the application at any time before the grant agreement is concluded.

Decisions on the awarding of grants were made in accordance with the order in which applications were submitted. The budget allocated for the competition in 2025 was EUR 25 000.
