Ārlietu ministrs un ASV senators pārrunā drošības un enerģētikas situāciju Eiropā

On 18 January 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the United States Senator, Steve Daines, for a discussion on bilateral cooperation on security and energy, as well as current international developments.

The Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation for the close relations between Latvia and the United States in the security and defence sector, and he thanked the United States for its substantial contribution to the strengthening of the security of the Baltic States, Latvia in particular. 

It is vital to continue supporting Ukraine, Edgars Rinkēvičs underlined in an exchange of views on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He noted that the transatlantic unity in sustaining diplomatic and economic pressure on Russia was of equal importance.

The officials also discussed energy policy issues. The Foreign Minister and the U.S. Senator were in agreement that it was essential to make further efforts towards the strengthening of energy security, transition to renewable energy and clean technologies, and promotion of energy efficiency.
