Ārlietu ministrs Polijas diplomātiem uzsver ciešās sadarbības nozīmi sarežģītajā ģeopolitiskajā situācijā

On 22 June 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, was in Poland on a working visit. As a guest of honour, he took part in the annual meeting of Polish Ambassadors and met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Zbigniew Rau.

In his remarks to the Ambassadors of Poland, Edgars Rinkēvičs thanked them for close cooperation between Latvian and Polish diplomats in providing political, military and humanitarian support to Ukraine. The Foreign Minister said that Latvia and Poland were among the countries which were the most poignantly aware of the price of Russia’s war. Peace and stability in Europe depends on Russia’s defeat in Ukraine. We must jointly continue political and diplomatic pressure on Russia and offer all possible assistance to Ukraine, the Latvian Foreign Minister underlined.

The Minister also made note of the understanding shared by Latvia and Poland about the security environment in the region and commended the work of the diplomats of the two countries towards achieving a stronger permanent presence of NATO in the Alliance’s eastern flank.

In their conversation, Foreign Minister Rinkēvičs and Foreign Minister Rau discussed preparations for the NATO Summit in Madrid, underlining that the decisions to be adopted should reflect the new reality in the security environment. The Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on support for Ukraine in the process of reconstruction and increasing sanctions against Russia.

The meeting of Polish Ambassadors is being held in Warsaw from 20 to 24 June. It brings together about 200 Polish diplomats – ambassadors, permanent representatives, and heads of departments in international organisations.
