On 8 and 9 October 2025, Dublin will host the annual training for the officials of the Latvian diplomatic and consular missions abroad on visa issues, with a view to improving their knowledge and skills in this field.

This year, the training will focus on topics related to current migration and security challenges – the participants will learn how to identify illegal migration schemes, get to know risk profiles, and learn about the latest trends in document forgery. The training will also address the use of the European Union’s digital Entry/Exit System in the visa application processing. The system will start operating on 12 October 2025.

The participants will learn about changes in migration legislation and improve their skills in assessing visa applications in accordance with the principles of administrative procedure.

This year, consular officials from 22 Latvian diplomatic missions that issue visas are participating in the training, i.e., the United States, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, France, Georgia, India, Israel, Ireland, Japan, Canada, Kazakhstan, China, Russia, Poland, Türkiye, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Sweden.a

The training is led by experts from various Latvian institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Constitutional Court, the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, and the State Border Guard, as well as foreign lecturers.

The training is organised with the financial support of the Instrument for Financial Support for Border Management and Visa Policy of the European Union within the framework of the project “Provision of regional training for consular officials of the Republic of Latvia on the EU uniform visa issuance policy in accordance with the requirements of the European Visa Code (Stage 1)” (Agreement No. ĀM/RPVP/2024/3).
