On 13 November 2025, a Latvian NGO Riga TechGirls, in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Latvia to the United Nations in New York, organised an online seminar on digital literacy for representatives of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) from the Caribbean, Africa and the Pacific regions.
“Just like in the SIDS countries, in Latvia our greatest value lies in people’s intellect and their ability to use the tools available to promote shared growth. Therefore, Riga TechGirls provides various types of training for healthcare, education and public sector representatives, helping them to acquire digital tools and skills that facilitate their daily work. We are eager to share our experience so that we can advance together,” said Riga TechGirls Board Member Pauls Siliņš.
The Permanent Mission of Latvia is glad to support projects that strengthen Latvia’s cooperation with SIDS countries. Internationally, Latvia is increasingly recognised for its high level of digitalisation and its achievements in the area of gender equality. We will continue to support such cooperation projects in the future, as they serve as clear examples of how Latvia contributes to the strengthening of peace, security and resilience worldwide.
Riga TechGirls is a Latvian NGO that promotes women’s involvement in the fields of technology and entrepreneurship by organising educational events and mentoring programmes. The organization’s goal is to enhance women’s digital skills and to create an inclusive environment where everyone can successfully use technology in their work and everyday life.
The seminar was attended by representatives from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Suriname, Antigua and Barbuda, as well as other countries.
The seminar recording is available on YouTube.
The project was implemented as part of the public diplomacy programme in support of Latvia’s participation in the United Nations Security Council. Latvia was elected for the first time on 3 June 2025 for the 2026-2027 term on the Council. Membership of the Council will be a key instrument in pursuit and protection of Latvia’s foreign policy interests, as well as making it possible for Latvia to expand the scale of its international cooperation and thereby contributing to global peace and resilience.
