Today marks 10 years since Latvia joined the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which brings together the world’s most advanced economies.

Over the past ten years, Latvia has significantly strengthened its competitiveness and international reputation. Membership of the OECD has helped to improve public governance, enhance the business environment, strengthen financial sector supervision and promote transparency and the more efficient use of public resources.

The OECD’s expertise and recommendations have provided valuable support for reforms in many areas, ranging from education and innovation to tax policy and productivity. At the same time, Latvia has become an active partner in international discussions, contributing to the search for common solutions to global challenges. Similarly, through the organisation's co-operation programmes with non-member countries, Latvia has supported reforms in regions of strategic importance to its foreign policy, including through support for the OECD's country programme for Ukraine and its path towards becoming a full OECD member.

Membership of the OECD is not merely about belonging to a prestigious club of nations. It is an opportunity to measure oneself against the best, learn from the most successful experiences, and implement policies that improve the quality of life for all citizens.

The decision to join the OECD, made ten years ago, has proven its worth – today, Latvia is a stronger, more competitive, and more influential country on the international stage.
