On 11 January 2024, Andžejs Viļumsons, the Under Secretary, Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Latvia, Elnur Sultanov, who presented a congratulatory letter from the Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, to the Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Krišjānis Kariņš, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Latvia and Azerbaijan.

Andžejs Viļumsons and Elnur Sultanov commended the good bilateral relations and noted that, due to the Strategic Partnership between Latvia and Azerbaijan initiated in 2017, a regular political dialogue has been maintained and dynamic cooperation developed both in economy and in other areas.

Today in Baku, to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Ambassador of Latvia to Azerbaijan, Edgars Skuja, presented a congratulatory letter from the Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Krišjānis Kariņš, to the Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov. An exchange of congratulatory letters in honour of the anniversary will also take place between the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, and the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

Diplomatic relations between Latvia and Azerbaijan were established on 11 January 1994.
