The NB8 countries continue to provide comprehensive military support to Ukraine. In mutual coordination of assistance, they have made joint contributions towards NATO’s comprehensive assistance mechanism, the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), to provide Ukraine with critically needed military capabilities and equipment and accelerate their supplies to repel Russia’s aggression. Pursuant to the Cabinet decision, Latvia has pledged 7.2 million euros in contributions to PURL.

The NB8 countries – Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland – have consistently provided military, financial and practical support to Ukraine ever since Russia unleased its full-scale invasion, and they are committed to going ahead, in order to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities, European security and the international law-based order.

Foreign Minister Baiba Braže:

“Latvia’s financial support for the purchase of military equipment in support of Ukraine is a clear signal of NATO and Allied commitment to ensuring that Ukraine’s priority military needs are met and to strengthening collective security in Europe. Latvia’s contribution demonstrates political and practical solidarity – Latvia, together with the Allies, is prepared to protect the international order against the Russian aggression.”

The total NB8 PURL package values at around USD 500 million.

PURL is an operational mechanism enabling the Allies to target their support at Ukraine’s must urgent requirements. Through this instrument, funding is channelled into equipment that has maximum effect on battlefield capabilities and long-term defence, while reaffirming transatlantic solidarity and an effective burden sharing.

In parallel with their joint contributions, the NB8 countries continue to implement their national support programs envisaging direct military supplies, financial support, training and logistical support. Latvia has committed to providing military support of at least 0.25% of GDP and, together with the United Kingdom, has taken a leading role in the Drone Coalition to increase supplies and develop national drone manufacturing capabilities.
