Valdis Krastiņš

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia offers deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of former Latvian Ambassador, our esteemed colleague, Valdis Krastiņš, upon his passing away on 13 January 2022. All of our sympathies are with them in their grief. Ambassador Krastiņš will remain in our memories as a person who was positive, bright, considerate, and kind-hearted.

Valdis Krastiņš began his career with the Foreign Service in 1992. In addition to his diverse musical education acquired in Riga and Saint Petersburg and vast experience of working in the music sector, Valdis Krastiņš became one of the first members of the Foreign Service in the restored Republic of Latvia. He has worked as Ambassador-at-Large in the Planning Group and the International Organisations and Human Rights Department, as well as heading the Secretariat of the Council of the Baltic Sea States. Has been posted as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to the Czech Republic, the Kingdom of Norway, and the Republic of Finland, and as non-resident Ambassador to the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Turkey.  

The Ambassador has been awarded the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit and the Order of the White Rose of Finland, First Class.

The Ambassador shares his life story in his book, “Very Personally, A Latvian Diplomat’s Story 1992–2008”, published in 2012.
