On 12 May 2025, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, launched the 17th session of the Intensive Programme in European Law and Economics at Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL).
“The Intensive Programme in European Law and Economics is the longest-running development cooperation activity supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more than ten years. When we launched the programme in 2014, our aim was to share our experience of integration into the European Union. The European Union is currently undergoing change and taking up an increasingly important role globally; therefore, the knowledge of the functioning of the European Union will be important in the work each of you are doing in your country,” the State Secretary said.
A total of 19 officials of public administration from the EU Neighbourhood Policy, Central Asian and Western Balkans countries will participate in the six-week programme run by the Riga School of Law. The Intensive Programme offers a Latvian perspective of the EU, including our reform experience – an overview and understanding of the EU law and economy, the EU integration process, Latvia’s public administration and politics, and the issues of good governance and corruption prevention.
The Intensive Programme will take place for four weeks with in-person attendance in Riga, and two weeks online. Participants will also make site visits to and learn about the work of various Latvian public administration institutions.
Since 2014, a total of 672 participants from 20 partner countries and territories have graduated from the programmes in European law and economics run by RGSL. The alumni will be able to use knowledge, experience, and contacts they have gained in Latvia to promote the development of their home countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports the programme from its development assistance policy budget.
