On 4 December 2025, the MARTA Centre association in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts a meeting for the delegation of partner countries in the project “Let’s Share Knowledge, Let’s Share Experience!” – Lithuania, Poland, Finland, and Norway.
The main objective of the project is to strengthen interregional cooperation between non-governmental organizations and public authorities, promoting the sharing of knowledge and best practice in the identification and protection of victims of human trafficking. The project focuses on improving assistance systems and building sustainable cooperation between countries in the region, so that organizations and institutions are able to more successfully support people who have been identified as victims of human trafficking.
The programme includes meetings with experts from the Ministry of Welfare, the Ministry of the Interior and the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as with the State Police, the Citizenship and Migration Affairs Office, the Return and Asylum Affairs Department of the State Border Guard, the Ombudsman’s Office, and the Child Protection Centre.
The delegation will visit the Mucenieki Detained Foreigners Accommodation Centre, the Asylum Seekers Centre, as well as the Iļģuciems Prison to gain a full insight into the work of the authorities and practical cooperation. The guests will also get acquainted with support services provided to victims of human trafficking in Latvia by the MARTA Centre and the Shelter Safe House Association.
The project is carried out in cooperation with ROSA (Norway), KOPŽI (Lithuania), Pro-tukipiste ry (Finland) and La Strada Foundation (Poland), with funding from the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) Project Support Facility.
For more than 20 years, the MARTA Centre has been providing support to women and girls who have becomes victims of human trafficking by offering them psychological, legal and social assistance, as well as safety planning in crisis situations.
This visit is an important step in strengthening international cooperation to create an effective and coherent support system for victims of human trafficking in the Baltic Sea Region.
