The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is announcing a grant project competition, “Support for development cooperation in recipient countries selected by the Republic of Latvia” for 2022. This is the first ever call for proposals without any restrictions to geographical coverage. Meanwhile, the main priority is support for Ukraine, in view of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and its people. Latvia also intends to enhance assistance to African countries in the format of development cooperation. Focus is still retained on the European Union’s Eastern Partnership countries – especially Georgia and Moldova – as well as on support for civil society in Belarus and on Central Asian countries – Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The thematic priorities of the competition have been set for each region, and they are based on the interests expressed by countries of receiving support in the areas such as development and capacity building in public Administration, business development, gender equality, the mitigation of climate change, and the fight against disinformation. Horizontal priorities all countries are the promotion of digitalisation, and addressing the issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligible applicants are institutions of direct and indirect public administration, local governments, government agencies of the Republic of Latvia as well as associations, foundations, businesses, and trade unions registered in Latvia. The project applicant should have at least one cooperation partner in a recipient country.

For the first time, it is also possible to apply for grants to projects with the period of implementation of two years – 2022 and 2023.

The total annual funding made available for the projects is EUR 924 410, which is almost four times more than in 2021. A single development cooperation grant project can receive from EUR 20,000 to EUR 60,000 per year.

The deadline for submission of project proposals is 23.59 on Saturday, 30 April 2022. The applications submitted after the due time will not be considered.
