On 18 and 19 March 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Krišjānis Kariņš, will take part in the meetings of the European Union (EU) Foreign Affairs Council and the General Affairs Council in Brussels.

On 18 March, at the EU Foreign Affairs Council, Ministers intend to discuss support by the EU for Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s full-scale war of aggression, as well as sharing opinions on Belarus and developments in the Middle East. EU Foreign Affairs Ministers will hold an informal exchange of views via VTC with the United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

At the meeting of the General Affairs Council scheduled for 19 March, Ministers will prepare for the European Council meeting on 21 and 22 March and discuss the future of Europe. During the annual European Semester process, an agreement is expected on recommendations for the euro area.
