On 12 January 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Krišjānis Kariņš, will meet with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, who is visiting the European Union Member States in the run-up to the European Parliament election.

The purpose of President Metsola’s visit is to urge the people of Latvia, especially youth, to actively exercise their democratic rights and participate in the election. During the meeting, the Foreign Minister and the President of the European Parliament will also discuss issues high on the EU agenda. In Latvia, the election to the European Parliament will be held on 8 June 2024.

The visit by Roberta Metsola to Latvia on 11 and 12 January will include meetings with the Speaker of the Saeima (the Latvian Parliament), Daiga Mieriņa, as well as the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, and the Prime Minister, Evika Siliņa.

Roberta Metsola will also participate in a discussion with young people organised by the European Parliament Liaison Office in Riga and the Latvian Institute of International Affairs at the Latvian National Museum of Art.
