Ārlietu ministrs- Latvija dalīsies pieredzē un atbalstīs Moldovu digitalizācijas jautājumos

On 13 October 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, welcomed a delegation from the Republic of Moldova headed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova for Digitalisation, Iurie Țurcanu.

The Moldovan delegation is staying in Latvia on a visit for several days to explore Latvia’s experience and map out the ways for cooperation in the field of digitalisation.

The Minister welcomed the fact that Moldova had been granted the status of a candidate for membership of the European Union. He highlighted digitalisation as an important tool as Moldova was launching the implementation of conditions set by the European Commission for the country’s further integration with the EU. Edgars Rinkēvičs underlined that Latvia was prepared to support Moldova in the field of digital transformation.

The Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalisation, Iurie Țurcanu, noted that experience exchange on digitalisation in the education and health sectors, cyber-security and the fight against disinformation was a priority in cooperation with Latvian partners. Iurie Țurcanu expressed interest in Latvia’s e-identity solutions and the compatibility of e-signatures between Latvia and Moldova.

 

Background information

The visit of the Moldovan delegation to Latvian has been arranged by the Moldova Future Technologies Activity programme established by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), and Riga Business School, an institution within Riga Technical University.

The aim of the visit is to introduce the delegation to Latvia’s achievements at the academic, sectoral and political level in the area of innovation and digitalisation. It includes meetings with the competent public authorities, higher education institutions, IT businesses operating in the fields of 5G, cyber security, artificial intelligence and green technologies. Cooperation between those actors on innovations is a vital prerequisite to success and inter-sectoral excellence.
