On 5 June 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, attended the Riga TechGirls association’s 10th anniversary event, emphasising the importance of digital skills, innovation and human capital in strengthening Latvia’s competitiveness and resilience.
The Minister noted that Latvia is one of Europe’s leaders in women’s participation in science and innovation – 30.6% of inventors in Latvia are women, the highest rate among member states of the European Patent Organisation. She emphasised that mastering digital skills and technologies strengthens both the country’s competitiveness and security.
Baiba Braže noted that digital literacy, media literacy, and cybersecurity skills are becoming increasingly important at a time when authoritarian regimes are using technology to spread disinformation and influence society. She stressed that a resilient society is built on people who are able to critically evaluate information and navigate the digital environment safely.
During the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs presented a Certificate of Recognition from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia to Anna Andersone, Chair of the Board of Riga TechGirls, for her significant contribution to advancing Latvia’s foreign policy objectives in the field of development cooperation.
