On 20 September 2023, the resident and no-resident heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Latvia are going on their annual tour and visit the regions of Vidzeme and Sēlija. Together with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, foreign diplomats will be welcome to explore the towns of Ogre, Ķegums, Lielvārde un Jēkabpils. The ambassadors will gain an insight into the business opportunities in the region as well as the cultural and historic heritage of the municipalities.

In Ogre, the ambassadors will visit the manufacturing facilities of AS HansaMatrix, a Latvian electronic company, which specialises in the development, design and manufacturing of electronic systems. At Ķegums Hydropower Plant, the visitors will see the exposition of its Energy Museum and will be given a presentation by AS Latvenergo on energy production and trade in Latvia and a wider region. While in Lielvārde, they will visit the museum of the poet Andrejs Pumpurs.

In Jēkabpils, the diplomats are to get acquainted with the work of the municipality and to visit Jēkabpils State Gymnasium. The ambassadors will then take a walk through the Struve Park, which boasts the “Jēkabpils” station point of the Struve Geodetic Arc. 34 points of the Struve Arc in ten countries are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The trip will be concluded with a visit to the Krustpils Castle.

Each year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs arranges a trip for foreign ambassadors to a particular Latvian region. Last year, ambassadors had the opportunity to explore Kurzeme, and before that, the regions of Vidzeme and Latgale.

Rīga hosts 38 resident embassies and 13 international organisations and their representations; in addition, there are also 94 no-resident embassies accredited to Latvia.
