On 21 November 2025, a Project Manager of the “Women for Security” association from Latvia, Eva Kiršteine, participated in a seminar titled “Bridging Agendas: Young Women-Led Dialogue on Women, Peace and Security and Youth, Peace and Security” organized by the UN Women in Georgia (UN Women).
The aim of the seminar was to engage Georgian youth in a meaningful dialogue on peace and gender equality, with a special emphasis on the role of young women in strengthening peace and security in Georgia. Eva Kiršteine offered an overview of progress achieved by non-governmental organizations in the implementation of the Resolution on Women, Peace and Security on a global scale, and also shared Latvia’s experience with implementing its National Action Plan. “Women, Peace and Security” will be one of Latvia’s priorities for its term on the UN Security Council in 2026–2027. Latvia will advocate for the further advancement of the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
The event brought together more than fifty young people, representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Georgian Network of Women and Youth Peace Ambassadors. The participants exchanged views on how to overcome the challenges faced by civil society in implementing the “Women, Peace, Security” and “Youth, Peace, Security” initiatives and developed recommendations for ensuring inclusive peace and security in Georgia.
The seminar was organized to mark the 25th anniversary of the UN Resolution 1325 “On Women, Peace and Security and the 10th anniversary of the Resolution 2250 “On Youth, Peace and Security”.
The event was implemented as part of the public diplomacy programme in support of the priorities of Latvia’s membership of the United Nations Security Council and promoting Latvia’s visibility. On 3 July 2025 Latvia was elected to the UN Security Council for the term from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027. Membership of the UN Security Council will be a key instrument in pursuit and protection of Latvia’s foreign policy interests. The overarching goal of the membership is to safeguard and strengthen the international environment conducive to Latvia’s security, exploiting and at the same time enhancing the opportunities offered by multilateral diplomacy.
