The Ministry of Foreign Affairs invites members of the business community and representatives of sectoral associations to participate in an event, “EU-Mercosur Trade Agreement: Questions and Answers”, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LTRK), which will provide deeper insights and answers to any outstanding questions about the EU-Mercosur trade agreement given directly by the chief negotiator for the deal at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade and Economic Security, Paolo Garzotti.

The EU-Mercosur Agreement is to create the world’s largest free trade area, covering a market of over 700 million consumers in the EU and Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. It will increase the EU’s annual exports to Mercosur by up to 39%, supporting more than 440,000 jobs across Europe, and eliminate import tariffs on 91% of EU products in Mercosur.

The meeting will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, 10 November 2025, in the Press Conference Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Arrival from 8:30 a.m., please bring an ID.

Working language: English.

In turn, those representing the agricultural, food, fisheries and timber industries will be invited to a conversation tailored to the specifics of those sectors at 14:30 on 10 November at the Ministry of Agriculture (invitations to the relevant sectoral associations will be distributed by the Ministry of Agriculture).

Mercosur (Mercado Común del Sur), or the Southern Common Market, is the leading trading bloc in South America, and currently its full members are Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay. On 6 December 2024, after 25 years of negotiations, a political agreement was reached on the conclusion of negotiations for an EU-Mercosur Free Trade Agreement, while on 3 September 2025, the European Commission submitted legislative proposals for the signature of the agreements, discussions on which are underway among Member States in the EU Council.
