On 14 July 2026, a meeting of the European Union (EU) General Affairs Council will take place in Brussels, at which Latvia will be represented by the Parliamentary Secretary, Artjoms Uršuļskis.
At the meeting, the Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the EU will provide an update on how it plans to advance negotiations on the EU Multiannual Financial Framework for 2028–2034, as well as on the latest developments and next steps in simplifying EU legislation. Representatives of the Member States will also hear a presentation on the priorities of the Irish Presidency. The Council is scheduled to approve conclusions on the evaluation of the Annual Rule of Law Cycle.
Prior to the General Affairs Council meeting, Latvia will host a meeting of the Friends of Cohesion to discuss progress in the negotiations on the EU Multiannual Financial Framework and to ensure a coordinated approach to advancing the interests outlined in the declaration adopted by the Friends of Cohesion on 25 May.
Latvia will also participate in intergovernmental conferences with Ukraine, Moldova, Montenegro and Albania.
The EU General Affairs Council addresses issues that concern more than one EU policy area, such as negotiations on EU enlargement, preparations for meetings of the European Council, the EU Multiannual Financial Framework, and rule of law, institutional and administrative matters.
