On 15 June 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Baiba Braže, will participate in the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg.
Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs will discuss military support for Ukraine and further pressure on Russia. The Council is expected to approve additional sanctions ahead of the 21st round of sanctions, thereby maintaining constant pressure on Russia. The discussion will also be attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha.
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs will open accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on the topic of fundamental rights.
Following the meeting in Luxembourg, intergovernmental conferences will be held with both candidate countries to open the first negotiation cluster of the EU accession process, “Fundamental Rights”.
The situation in the Middle East. The Ministers will discuss developments in Iran, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Lebanon, as well as other regional issues, including the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
EU-China relations. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs will discuss China’s role in global economic and security challenges and its relations with Russia.
The Baltic and Nordic NB6+ Ministers of Foreign Affairs will also meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Anita Orbán.
Baiba Braže will also address the EU-Egypt Association Council.
The Foreign Affairs Council deals with issues related to external action, including the common foreign and security policy, European security and defence policy, external trade and development cooperation. The main task of the Council is to ensure the unity, consistency, and effectiveness of the external actions of the EU.
