On 10 September 2026, a meeting of the directors of the Consular Departments of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Baltic and Nordic countries (NB8) took place in Tallinn, Estonia.
During the meeting, participants shared their experiences regarding the crisis in the Middle East in March this year and the evacuation of nationals from the areas affected by the crisis. They held in-depth discussions on future cooperation among the countries to provide prompt assistance to nationals and make more effective use of the resources available to each country.
Participants also discussed available mechanisms to support the well-being of consular staff and local staff at diplomatic missions involved in crises, with a particular focus on mental health and the early detection of signs of burnout.
The coordination meetings of the consular services of the Baltic and Nordic countries represent a significant and valuable exchange of experiences aimed at improving the effectiveness of consular services. Last year, the coordination meetings were held in Vilnius.
