Latvijas un Kazahstānas konsulārās konsultācijas

On 26 February 2024, consular consultations were held in Riga between the foreign services of Latvia and Kazakhstan, which included in-depth discussions on the current situation and prospects for cooperation in the field of visas.

At the opening of the meeting, the Ambassador Jurijs Pogrebņaks, Head of the Consular and Diplomatic Facilities Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted the long-standing and friendly bilateral relations between Latvia and Kazakhstan, as well as emphasizing the interest in strengthening dialogue on the broadest possible range of topics. Jurijs Pogrebņaks also welcomed the rapid development of the EU-Kazakhstan relations in recent years. During the meeting, delegations from both countries discussed the perspectives for cooperation in issuing visas, which would intensify mutual relations in economic, cultural, scientific and other areas.

Special attention was paid to the issue of legal protection of Latvian and Kazakh nationals, including in the field of employment. Delegations exchanged experience on the readmission of their citizens.

Experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Welfare, the State Border Guard and the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs participated in consultations on the part of Latvia. The Kazakh delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Populations.

Previous consultations on consular matters between Latvia and Kazakhstan took place on 19 November 2015.
