On 8 September 2026, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft order submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide EUR 100,000 in humanitarian assistance to Nepal to help mitigate the consequences of the floods.
The draft order was submitted to provide financial assistance to Nepal following the devastating floods and landslides of 26 August, which affected vast areas along the Nepal–China border, resulting in significant loss of life and extensive damage to transport, energy, water supply and communications infrastructure.
Nepal has appealed for international assistance. More than 25 countries, including EU Member States, as well as several international organisations, are already providing support.
This assistance is particularly important because Latvian nationals are among those reported missing, and Latvia is working closely with the relevant Nepali authorities and the consular missions of EU Member States in the search for the missing nationals.
