On 16 September 2025, the Cabinet approved a draft order on the participation of a civilian expert Kristīne Grīnberga in the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA). On 1 October, she will take up the post of a junior expert for the press and public information.

Upon assuming her duties, Kristīne Grīnberga becomes the third civilian expert from Latvia on the EUMA. Currently, 25 European Union Member States have contributed 147 civilian experts to the mission.

Civilian expert Kristīne Grīnberga was selected under the European External Action Service’s (EAAS) Civilian CSDP Young Professional Experts Pilot Programme. The pilot project was launched this past spring addressing young experts under the age of 32 with higher education and a minimum of 2 years of professional experience.

The European Union Mission in Armenia was established in 2023 to reduce incident risks at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, report on the security situation, and support confidence-building between the two countries.

The selection of candidates for participation in EU missions is carried out by the EEAS. The participation of Latvian civilian experts in international missions and operations is stipulated in the Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 598 of 22 September 2020, “Procedure for sending a civilian expert for participation in an international mission or operation”.

Those interested in opportunities to join international missions and operations as a civilian expert are invited to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by writing to civilie.eksperti@mfa.gov.lv
