On 29 and 30 September 2025, while on a working visit in Warsaw, Poland, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Baiba Braže met with officials from several countries, including the US President’s Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Marcos Perestrello, the fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, the Special Envoy of France for Ukraine’s Relief and Reconstruction, Pierre Heilbronn, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, and others.
Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum, including in a session together with Keith Kellogg, Baiba Braže underlined:
“Transatlantic cooperation is in the interests of all parties – joint training and military exercises are held, expertise is shared, Ukraine’s experience is transferred and integrated. We must not allow any attempts by Russia or anyone else to divide Allies or undermine our unity and support for Ukraine.”
In the discussion, Baiba Braže pointed out that NATO is a defence alliance, established on the basis of Article 51 of the UN Charter, which, in turn, provides for the right to self-defence. “According to the Charter, countries providing military or other assistance to Ukraine’s self-defence do not automatically become parties to Russia’s war. I would like to remind all “neutral states” of that. It is in our collective security interests to provide all kind of support to strengthen Ukraine’s self-defence capabilities, as Russia seeks to weaken the influence of the United Nations, NATO, the United States and the Allies in the world.”
Baiba Braže also emphasized that Europe needs to boost its military capabilities and develop its defence industry at a faster pace. “It is welcome that NATO members committed at this year’s summit to raising their defence investments to 5% of GDP; however, given Russia’s increasingly intense and aggressive hybrid threats, economic solutions must be quickly found to strengthening defence and deterrence capabilities. I highly appreciate the enhanced NATO presence on its eastern flank through the Eastern Sentry and the Baltic Sentry military missions, which come as a response from the Alliance to Russia’s growing unconventional threat and strengthen the defence of the region.”
Foreign Minister Braže gave interviews to several media outlets – TVP World, Bloomberg, Ukrinform, and The Kyiv Independent.
