On 12 June 2026, in Riga, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, will meet with Piotr Serafin, European Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration, to discuss Latvia’s priorities in the negotiations on the EU’s Multiannual Financing Framework for 2028–2034.

The meeting will take place ahead of the European Council meeting on 18–19 June, at which negotiations on the EU's Multiannual Financing Framework will be among the key topics for discussion by EU leaders. Latvia’s priorities remain unchanged: funding for security and defence; additional funding for Latvia, taking into account security challenges and the negative socio-economic impact of being a country on the EU’s eastern border; a level playing field for farmers through additional funding to level out direct payments; sufficient funding under the Connecting Europe Facility for transport and military mobility projects, including Rail Baltica; and inclusive provisions within the European Competitiveness Fund.

Latvia’s interests are set out in the Government Declaration of 28 May 2026 and in the national position adopted in December 2025, which was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers and the European Affairs Committee of the Saeima.
