Latvijas vēstnieks Juris Bone iesniedza akreditācijas vēstuli Šrilankas prezidentam Ranilam Vikremesingem (Ranil Wickremesinghe)

On 5 November 2023 in Colombo, the Ambassador of Latvia, Juris Bone, submitted his letter of credence to the President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe.

As part of his accreditation visit, Ambassador Bone met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Ali Sabri, and other Sri Lankan officials. Officials from the two countries discussed cooperation between Latvia and Sri Lanka, emphasizing the need to establish a mechanism for political consultations and develop a legal framework. The Latvian Ambassador noted the successful cooperation between the two countries in mutually supporting their respective candidacies for UN bodies. Sri Lankan officials, for their part, expressed interest in promoting the incoming tourism from the Baltic region.

Background information

Juris Bone is the second non-resident Ambassador of Latvia to Sri Lanka, succeeding former Ambassador Artis Bērtulis.

During his diplomatic career, Juris Bone has been posted as Ambassador of Latvia to Estonia and Finland. He has also served as head of the Latvian delegation in negotiations on the Latvia-Russia border regime, an Ambassador-at-Large for international climate issues, Latvia’s representative and Chairman of the Committee of Senior Officials at the Council of the Baltic Sea States, and the Head of the State Protocol. 

Latvia’s interests in Sri Lanka are represented by the Embassy of Latvia in India and the Honorary Consul of Latvia, Dr. Manil Fernando.
