Valsts prezidents Edgars Rinkēvičs pasniedz akreditācijas vēstuli nākamajai Latvijas ārkārtējai un pilnvarotajai vēstniecei Itālijas Republikā Elitai Gavelei

On 26 February 2024, the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs presented a letter of credence to the next Latvian Ambassador to the Italian Republic, Elita Gavele.

Elita Gavele began her career in the diplomatic service in 1991 at the Embassy of Latvia in Lithuania. Elita Gavele has worked as Head of the Information Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as the First Secretary at the Embassy of Latvia in the Russian Federation, the Counsellor of the Planning Group and the Office of the State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as heading the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Artis Pabriks. 

From November 2011 to August 2016, Elita Gavele was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Georgia and non-resident Ambassador of Latvia to the Republic of Armenia. From August 2016 to September 2020, Elita Gavele had been posted as Ambassador of Latvia to the State of Israel.

In September 2020, Elita Gavele was appointed Ambassador-at-Large of Latvia for the Diaspora.

The Ambassador holds a master’s degree from Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.

Elita Gavele is fluent in English, Lithuanian, and Russian.

The previous Ambassador to Italy, Solvita Āboltiņa, held the post since August 2018.
