Latvijas ārkārtējā un pilnvarotā vēstniece Elita Kuzma iesniedz akreditācijas vēstuli Kosovas Republikas prezidentei Vjosai Osmani-Sadriu (Vjosa Osmani Sadriu)

On 18 December 2023, in Pristina, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia, Elita Kuzma, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani Sadriu.

In a conversation with the President, the Ambassador reaffirmed support for Kosovo’s integration into the European Union and Latvia’s readiness to continue sharing its EU integration experience with Kosovo. Elita Kuzma welcomed a visa-free travel by the citizens of Kosovo to the EU as from 1 January 2024. The Ambassador expressed satisfaction with Kosovo joining the EU’s statements and sanctions on Russia.

The President of Kosovo voiced appreciation for the visit to Kosovo by the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, in April 2022, and the regular dialogue with Latvian officials. Vjosa Osmani Sadriu thanked Latvia for its support to Kosovo in EU-related matters and expressed a wish for continuing closer cooperation in the field of security, including cyber security. 

The Ambassador pledged Latvia’s readiness to provide further contribution to the security of Kosovo and the region by participating in the NATO peacekeeping operation, KFOR; she also voiced hope that with the help of an EU-facilitated dialogue it would be possible to achieve a long-term solution in relations with Serbia.

A Honorary Consulate of Latvia in Kosovo will be inaugurated during the period of the Ambassador’s visit.
