On 20 October 2025, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, will participate in the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union (EU) in Luxembourg.
Russian aggression against Ukraine. Ministers will discuss further comprehensive support for Ukraine, containment of Russia, including work on the 19th round of sanctions.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, plans to attend the EU Foreign Affairs Council in person.
The situation in the Middle East. The EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs will discuss developments in the region and progress in the peace talks.
The agenda also includes EU cooperation with India and the Pacific Rim countries.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, will report on the current situation in Moldova and Georgia in relation to the elections that have taken place, as well as the situation in Sudan.
Before the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting on 19 October, the 4thEU-Iraq Cooperation Council meeting will take place.
Following the EU Foreign Affairs Council, on 20 October, Luxembourg will host a meeting of ministers responsible for interregional security and connectivity with the Eastern Partnership and Central Asian countries, as well as Türkiye.
Background information
The Foreign Affairs Council deals with issues related to external action, including the common foreign and security policy, European security and defence policy, external trade and development cooperation. The main task of the Council is to ensure the unity, consistency, and effectiveness of the external actions of the EU.
