Ministry of Foreign Affairs

As of 1 May 2026, amendments to the Republic of Latvia Cabinet Regulation No. 707 of 21 November 2018, “Price List of the Consular Remuneration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Procedures for the Collection of the Consular Remuneration and State Fees”, will come into effect, which provide for increased consular remuneration rates for services provided by Latvian diplomatic and consular missions abroad to Latvian nationals and foreign nationals.

The consular remuneration for services provided through diplomatic missions will from now on be EUR 90. The fee for receiving and forwarding documents through diplomatic missions for foreign nationals applying for a residence permit will be EUR 180 or EUR 252, depending on the purpose of the residence permit application.

As of 1 May 2026, a consular remuneration of EUR 90 will be applied for updating information in the Register of Natural Persons if this is done through a diplomatic mission. As before, this service will remain free of charge if the information is provided directly to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs without involvement of an embassy. Information on options for providing information and the relevant procedures is available on the website of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs.

An increase in consular remuneration and the State fee is necessary to ensure the constant quality and availability of consular services abroad in the context of strict fiscal discipline. At the same time, consular remuneration rates are being adjusted to reflect the costs of the human resources and logistical resources required to provide the services abroad, which have increased significantly in recent years.

Latvian diplomatic missions abroad primarily provide services that people permanently residing abroad cannot otherwise obtain except in person (for example, the issuance of identity documents). However, residents abroad are encouraged to request and receive other services provided by Latvian institutions, which are available electronically or by mail, directly from the Latvian institutions without going through Latvian diplomatic missions abroad.
