On 25 November 2025 in Paris, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the OECD and UNESCO, Andris Pelšs, opened an official ceremony for signing a cooperation agreement between a Latvian language technology company, Tilde, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Thereby, Tilde will continue providing its AI-powered conference translation technologies for seminars organised by UNESCO Secretariat to promote capacity building in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
At the meeting, Andris Pelšs underscored contribution by Latvian experts to UNESCO in the fields of education and science, artificial intelligence and digitalization. He pointed out that Tilde has a noteworthy experience of working with UN institutions, including UNESCO, to help countries apply solutions for the development of the languages of small nations in the digital environment, as well as providing support for applying of the principle of multilingualism.
UNESCO was represented at the ceremony by its Assistant Director-General Lidia Brito.
The signing of the agreement is the next practical step following up on the seminar organized by the Latvian Delegation to the OECD and UNESCO on 22–23 April 2024 in support of SIDS and promoting educational and language digitalization solutions built on Latvia’s experience.
UNESCO is an international organization that brings together 194 countries committed to the fields of education, natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, culture, communication and information. Latvia joined UNESCO in 1991.
