On 30 November 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a bilateral meeting between the delegation from the Directorate General for Financial Stability, Financial Services, and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA) of the European Commission and the national competent authorities of Latvia in the field of supervision of sanctions.

The officials discussed the strengthening of sanctions implementation mechanisms, opportunities for exchanging good practices among the member states, and current issues in the field of sanctions in Latvia. The representatives of the competent institutions in Latvia informed about the work done so far and the activities planned for the future, as well as the challenges in the process of the application, enforcement and monitoring of sanctions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of regular cooperation among all parties involved and thanked the European Commission for the support provided. The participants agreed on the need to implement and enforce sanctions set by the European Union more effectively and uniformly on a national and international scale in order to achieve the common goals.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice, the Financial Intelligence Service, the Bank of Latvia, the Enterprise Register, the Ministry of Transport, the Customs Administration of the State Revenue Service, the Customs Tax and Customs Police, the State Security Service, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Procurement Monitoring Bureau, and the National Electronic Mass Media Council.
