Valsts sekretārs Andris Pelšs akreditācijas vizītē pieņem Nigēras vēstnieku

On 16 August 2022, the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, hosted an accreditation visit from the non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Niger to Latvia, Souleymane Issakou, who is the first Nigerien Ambassador to Latvia. His accreditation symbolically coincides with the decade since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, Andris Pelšs particularly emphasized Latvia’s desire to strengthen the political dialogue with Niger and he highlighted the potential of economic cooperation between the two countries in the area of information technology. The security situation in the Sahel was also discussed in connection with the growing threat of cross-border terrorism, food security and migration risks. The State Secretary expressed his gratitude for Niger’s support for the United Nations’ initiatives in response to the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

The Ambassador of Niger resides in Berlin.

The accreditation of the Ambassador with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, has been scheduled for 17 August 2022.
