On September 11, 2023, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, received an accreditation visit from the Ambassador of Denmark to Latvia, Morten Jespersen.

During the meeting, State Secretary Andris Pelšs commended the close and multifaceted bilateral relations between Latvia and Denmark, based on a common understanding of a safe, stable and sustainable development in the Baltic Sea region, as well as active cooperation in regional and international formats. The State Secretary expressed particular gratitude to the Ambassador for Denmark’s decision to station once again a battalion of the Danish Armed Forces in Latvia in mid-2024, which is a testimony to Denmark’s continued involvement in the security of the Baltic States and strengthening of collective defence capabilities.

The diplomats reaffirmed their readiness to work towards the promotion of closer cooperation on security issues and in economy, energy, transport, logistics, and innovation.

The officials underlined the importance of the regional Nordic-Baltic cooperation and they highlighted a concerted action in multilateral formats to counter the Russian aggression against Ukraine as well as to provide united support to Ukraine.

The Ambassador’s accreditation ceremony with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, is scheduled for 2 October.
