On 28 June 2021, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, had an online conversation with the new non-resident Ambassador of Bulgaria, Selver Ahmed Halil.

The State Secretary congratulated the Ambassador on the post she will soon be taking up and he noted that this year represents the 30th anniversary of the renewal of diplomatic ties, while in 2022, Latvia and Bulgaria will celebrate the centenary of their diplomatic relations. The diplomats spoke enthusiastically about the friendly relations between the two countries while highlighting the need for strengthening the political dialogue, economic cooperation and cooperation in international organisations. Potential was underlined for intensifying economic relations by facilitating new business contacts and building cooperation in the ICT sector. 

Andris Pelšs thanked Bulgaria for work invested in the organisation of the Three Seas Initiative (TSI) Summit and he confirmed the participation of the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, in the TSI Summit and the Business Forum this coming 8 July and 9 July.

The Ambassador of Bulgaria to Latvia will reside in Sofia, Bulgaria. A remote accreditation with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, has been scheduled for 5 July.
