On 14 March 2024, the Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the United States, Māris Selga, and the Special Envoy and Coordinator for the Global Engagement Center, James P. Rubin, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Latvia, Evika Siliņa, and the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Kurt Campbell, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation between the Republic of Latvia and the United States on countering foreign state information manipulation.

The signing of the memorandum further strengthens the close strategic partnership between Latvia and the United States. The document acknowledges the risks posed by foreign information manipulation, such as disinformation, and aims to expand information sharing about this threat, sharing of best practices, and alignment on policies and practical cooperation on countering foreign state information manipulation.

The Memorandum of Understanding with the United States underscores Latvia’s active international role in strengthening the resilience of democracies to foreign information manipulation and protecting information integrity – a free information environment conducive to accurate, trustworthy, and reliable information.
