On 23 September 2022, in New York, during the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Suzi Carla Barbosa, for a discussion on cooperation in international organisations, among other topics.

During the conversation, Edgars Rinkēvičs pointed out that Latvia was interested in the strengthening of political dialogue and promoting the exchange of bilateral visit. Bilateral consultations at the level of ministries would make it possible to identify specific areas for cooperation.

“Latvia supports the strengthening of dialogue between the European Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), while being confident that the cooperation will further develop during the presidency of Guinea-Bissau,” Edgars Rinkēvičs underlined.

Edgars Rinkēvičs noted that in 2025, for the first time, Latvia would stand as a candidate in elections to the United Nations Security Council for the term of 2026–2027.
