Akreditācijas vēstuli saņem Latvijas vēstnieks Azerbaidžānā Edgars Skuja

On 4 September 2023, in an official ceremony in Riga Castle, the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, presented a letter of credence to the next Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Azerbaijan, Edgars Skuja.

During the accreditation ceremony, Edgars Skuja discussed with the President the opportunities for cooperation between Latvia and Azerbaijan. The officials underlined the need to continue the exchange of top-level visits and to promote economic cooperation by facilitating trade and investment attraction, as well as cooperation in culture and education.

Edgars Skuja took up a position the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993. Since then, he has served as Director of the Political Department and Under-Secretary of State, and headed the Directorate of Security Policy and International Organisations.

Edgars Skuja has been posted as Permanent Representative of Latvia to the United Nations, the OSCE and other international organisations in Vienna, Permanent Representative to NATO, and as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Austria, Estonia, and Russia.

In the course of his career, the Ambassador has received a number of Latvian and foreign awards and decorations.

The Ambassador has graduated from the Faculty of History and Philosophy and the Institute of International Relations at the University of Latvia, followed by further education in study programmes in Austria, South Korea, and Germany.

In his present posting, Edgars Skuja succeeds Ambassador Dainis Garančs.
