The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has evaluated project applications submitted under the call for proposals, “Support for Development Cooperation and Development (Global) Education Projects Funded by the European Commission and Other International Aid Donors in the Recipient Countries Defined by the Republic of Latvia and in the Republic of Latvia”. The aim of the competition was to offer additional financial support to project promoters who have already been granted funding by other development cooperation aid donors.

The Foreign Ministry has awarded co-financing grants to five projects of the following applicants:

  1. a project by the Cleantech Latvia association aimed at capacity building among industry associations serving engineering companies in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan;
  2. a “Forests Project” by an association Be Good! on sending volunteers to Cameroon, Guinea, Congo, Vietnam and Ghana in order to strengthen the activities of local organisations supporting local communities in a drive to jointly protect rain forests and make their management more sustainable;
  3. a project by the Green Liberty association to promote climate action by European citizens and development in the climate sector;
  4. a global education project by the Baltic Human Rights Society to develop an IT platform with the Human Rights Guide;
  5. a global education project by the Latvian Platform for Development Cooperation association aimed at the strengthening of the Eurodad Network.

The projects supported have already received grants from the European Commission and Oxfam, an international non-governmental organisation.

As stipulated by the Development Cooperation Policy Plan for 2021–2023, the eligible applicants were associations, foundations, and social partners. The total funding made available for the project was EUR 40,000.
