On 22 September 2022, in New York, during the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Principality of Monaco, Isabelle Berro Amadei, for a discussion on bilateral relations and cooperation in international organisations.

During the conversation, Edgars Rinkēvičs drew attention to avenues for cooperation in the mitigation of climate change and in the fields of marine ecology, as well as information and communication technologies, including smart cities, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and electric transport infrastructure.

The officials exchanged views on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Latvian Foreign Minister voiced a position that further pressure should be made on Russia through applying sanctions to the economic sectors.

Edgars Rinkēvičs noted that in 2025, for the first time, Latvia would stand as a candidate in elections to the United Nations Security Council for the term of 2026–2027.

The Minister invited the Foreign Minister of Monaco to visit Latvia.
